Udall, Heinrich, Luján Include Provision To Support Gold King Mine Monitoring In Year End Legislation

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, the lead Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies, U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich and U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján announced that they included a provision in the end-of-year appropriations bill that encourages the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to conduct long-term monitoring efforts following the Gold King Mine blowout.

NAOMI MIRIAM BECKER Dec. 16, 2015

Naomi Miriam Becker, 63, of Santa Fe passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015.

She is preceded in death by her parents Sidney and Carol Becker. She is survived  by her children Madeleine Cogbill and Andre Cogbill. Naomi Becker was an accomplished hydrologist who spent over three decades at Los Alamos National Laboratory before retiring in 2O14. She earned a B.S. in Geology at the University of lllinois-Chicago, and the M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Annual Big Band After Christmas Dance Dec. 26

BIG BAND News:

The annual Big Band After Christmas Dance is 7:30-10:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall, 3700 Canyon Road in Los Alamos. The dance is open to the public and proceeds will be used to help the IHM Youth Group. Admission is $15, $10 for students, and $5 for those under 12.

The IHM venue provides a large dance floor and good acoustics. Decorations and refreshments will be provided by the IHM Youth Group.

RTD Mountain Trail Route Operating On Weekend Schedule Dec. 24-Jan. 1

RTD News: 

The RTD Mountain Trail Route to Ski Santa Fe will operate on its weekend schedule, which includes seven roundtrips, each day from Thursday, Dec. 24 through Friday, Jan. 1. Ride the Mountain Trail, avoid crowded parking lots and be dropped off right at the ticket window.

The fare is $5 each way, exact change required. Riders to the Ski Basin will be given a token upon exiting the bus that can be redeemed for $5 off anything at Ski Santa Fe, with the exception of alcohol. Redeem it on lift tickets, ski school, ski shop, restaurants, etc.

Pajarito Mountain Ski Area recently received recognition by Skiing Magazine and National Geographic Magazine as well as New Mexico’s association of ski resorts.

Thanks to this week’s winter storms, nearly two feet of snow have aAdropped on the mountain and resort officials announced that most of the skiable terrain will be open for powder skiing this Saturday, Dec. 19.
