Astronomy Show: Night Sky And Dark Night Preview

Take an interactive tour of the heavens with Steve Becker and a preview of what can be seen at the Pajarito Astronomers’ Dark Night program the following evening, including Venus and Jupiter.

The show begins at 7 p.m. Friday, April 13 in the Planetarium at the Los Alamos Nature Center at 2600 Canyon Road.

The Pajarito Astronomers’ Dark Night program begins at 7:40 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at Spirio Soccer Field at Overlook Park in White Rock. Observing will end before 1 a.m. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Becker serves as the president of the Pajarito Astronomy Club. He has a Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Illinois, Urbana. He started working at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1983 and became a Laboratory Fellow in 2009. He has presented shows at the PEEC planetarium on a variety of astronomical topics. His hobbies include piloting small planes, flying aerobatic planes in Santa Fe, history, photography and travel.

Because there are just 50 seats in the planetarium, attendees are asked to purchase their tickets in advance. Tickets may be purchased by visiting or calling the Los Alamos Nature Center at 505.662.0460. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children.

Planetarium shows are not recommended for children under age 4.
