Free Flamenco Classes Offered in White Rock

PSDA News:

Warm up your summer by learning Flamenco Dance in White Rock. This beginning level class is for men and women, ages 11 and up.

The class is free and takes place 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays, June 21 to July19 (except July 5) in the White Rock Activity Center.   

Flamenco dance has become a popular dance form worldwide because of its powerful lines, intense percussive rhythms, and the beautiful traditional melodies that cannot help but inspire movement.

The Los Alamos ScienceFest has announced its call for entries for its fourth annual SMART (Science and Math-based Art) Contest. A panel of local judges will award winners who will share in cash prizes.

"We are looking for art that demonstrates scientific or mathematical concepts, principles or phenomena in creative ways,” said Melanie Peña of Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation.

Taos School of Music Hosts Young Artist Concerts

MUSIC News:

Taos School of Music will host a Young Artist Concert  at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 28 at the Hotel St. Bernard, Taos Ski Valley. Young musicians will perform Beethoven String Quartet Op. 74 "Harp" and Schumann Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 63. The concert is free and open to the public.

A second concert is 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 29 at Taos Community Auditorium, 145 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte, Taos. Musical selections include Haydn String Quartet Op. 76, No. 2 and Ravel String Quartet and Dvorak Piano Quartet in E Flat Major. Tickets for this concert are $8.

The Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series continues at 7 p.m. Friday, June 20 at Ashley Pond with the David Luning Band.

This is going to be a fabulous show at our new downtown stage. It’s a free show presented by Los Alamos County and the sponsors of our Series.

Play Reading of LALT's Upcoming Production of 'And Then There Were None' Wednesday

There will be a play reading for Los Alamos Little Theatre’s November show, Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" also known as "Ten Little Indians” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 at Los Alamos Little Theatre, 1670 Nester St.  

Anyone interested in auditioning for this production is highly encouraged to attend the reading.

Synopsis of the play:

Ten guilty strangers are invited to an island get-a-way in the late 1930s. One by one, they are accused of murder by a mysterious voice; and one by one they start to die.

PEEC Offers Silent Auction of Dorothy Hoard Artworks

PEEC News:

Before her death in March, Dorothy Hoard, one of the most beloved women in Los Alamos, a Living Treasure, and ardent supporter of the community, entrusted her friend Terry Foxx with her artwork.

Hoard’s wish was that it would be used to further her legacy by offering the artwork for sale to the community through the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC).

To honor this wish, PEEC is offering one-of-a-kind pieces of Hoard’s work through a silent
