‘Rising From Ashes’ Coming to Los Alamos March 12

“Rising From Ashes,” the award-winning feature-length documentary about Team Rwanda, will premiere in Los Alamos at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, when the cycling film screens at the Reel Deal Movie Theater.

The event is co-sponsored by the Tuff Riders Mountain Bike Club and the Los Alamos Singletrack Association.

“Rising From Ashes” is a joyous and uplifting independent film about the development of a national cycling team in Rwanda, a country still affected deeply by the genocide that tore the East African nation apart in 1994.

Santa Fe Pro Musica presents The Variation Trio in performance with Avery Fisher Career Grant winning pianist Benjamin Hochman at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 16 in the St. Francis Auditorium, New Mexico Museum of Art.

The Variation Trio and Benjamin Hochman will perform a program of beloved works of famous greats, adding a touch of local color with a piece by Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival Artistic Director and composer Marc Neikrug.

The Unitarian Church of Los Alamos will host critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Peter Mulvey for an all-ages concert 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21.

According to the Boston Globe, "Peter Mulvey is all substance, which is his style."

Mulvey honed his skills in the subways of Boston and on the streets of Dublin, and for the past 20 years has made his living touring the country with his guitar skills and poetic songwriting style.

The 2014 Los Alamos Photography Club (LAPC) Show opens Monday, March 3. This is an annual event sponsored by the Los Alamos Photography Club and exhibited in the Mesa Public Library Gallery.

The show begins with a reception at 5 p.m. Monday, March 3 in the Library’s Upstairs Rotunda. The public is invited to meet the photographers and enjoy refreshments provided by the participants and exhibit sponsors. The photographs will remain on exhibit through March 28 during regular Library hours

Documentary Examines How Craft Brewers Are Rebuilding Economy

A new documentary,“Crafting a Nation,” examines how American craft brewers are rebuilding the economy by creating jobs, tax revenue and instilling a renewed sense of entrepreneurship in America.

“Crafting a Nation” will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 at the Reel Deal Theater.

The event will feature beer from Santa Fe Brewing Company, as well as a drawing for door prizes and an opportunity to meet with members of the Los Alamos Beer Cooperative’s (LABC) board of directors.

The LABC will explain their role in boosting the economy of Los Alamos and north central New Mexico

NMDT-PC Presents 'All About Love'

Celebrate Valentine's Day at the ballet. New Mexico Dance Theater Performance Company (NMDT-PC), directed by Susan Baker-Dillingham, will present "All About Love" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, Saturday, Feb. 15 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16 at the Duane W. Smith Auditorium.

Tickets are on sale at Uli's, or 45 minutes prior to performance times, and are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and free for children age four and under.



Public Invited to Santa Fe National Forest’s Fire and Ice Restoration Festival

SANTA FE—The public is invited to celebrate the beauty of winter and the coming of spring at the annual Fire and Ice Restoration Festival. The event, hosted by Santa Fe National Forest’s Jemez Ranger District and the Village of Jemez Springs, is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Feb. 22 at Father Fitzgerald Park in Jemez Springs.

This free community event will feature educational booths and presentations that highlight the 210,000-acre Southwest Jemez Mountains Landscape Restoration Project. Special guests will include Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl.
