Music, All Music, Any Music, Is Wonderful
Column by Richard Hanneman

When I was a kid growing up in Los Alamos in the 50’s and 60’s I listened to KRSN.

KRSN programming back then was a musical potpourri – the play-list included Beatles, Kenny Rogers, Frank Sinatra, the Kingston Trio, all of the top recording artists of the day played in no particular order.

Within any given hour during the day you would hear rock, country, folk, blues, jazz. In all likelihood you might well have heard a back-to-back presentation of, e.g., Puff the Magic Dragon, Boogie Woogie Bugler

Review by Bonnie J. Gordon

Frost/Nixon is a trip down memory lane for those of us who were there, but maybe it’s more important that those who weren’t there see this play.

If you want to understand the 1970s, certainly a pivotal time in American history, there’s no better way to get a feel for the period than to see Front/Nixon.

The Los Alamos Little Theatre is presenting an excellent production of Peter Morgan’s play this month. The show portrays the 1977 television interviews Read More

Who doesn’t want to go on an adventure? There something thrilling and romantic about leaving the comfort and security of home in exchange for the great unknown that lies in the far corners of the map.

This is what “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” provides moviegoers – the opportunity to tag along on a great adventure.

Let me tell you, it is a wonderful ride although be prepared for long pauses on this epic journey because apparently this story is being spread out into three films.

Khalsa Reviews ‘Jack Reacher’

Theatrical Release Poster

By Dr. Seva SSS Khalsa, DOM, L.Ac.
Your intrepid movie reviewer

The movie Jack Reacher delivers what I expected after seeing the trailer on TV: Action. Don’t expect too much more than that, or anything too complicated here, and there are some definite holes in the plot development.

But we see the usual Mission Impossible Tom Cruise, intense and serious. Despite showing his age, Tom can still deliver in the fight scenes.

We have some hand-to-hand Read More

A World of Music

To recap (and slightly expand): sound is vibration traveling through a medium and music can be described as sound in a combinatory variety of frequency and rhythm produced by intent as an expression of sentient experience.

It’s kind of a nifty definition because it is non-anthropomorphic – it applies just as well to Klingon opera as to Mozart. But it may be, as all definitions are, somewhat limited.

We speak of “songbirds” and “the songs of birds”, or the “music of the stream”, and other similar
