Student Musicale at UNM-LA Sunday

LA Music Teacher News:

The public is invited to a Student Musicale at 2 p.m. Sunday at UNM-Los Alamos (Building 2). The Musicale will be followed at 3 p.m. by a Los Alamos Music Teachers Meeting.

Performers in the Musicale range in age from first grade through college-age. They include:  violinist Jamie Philp accompanied by Susan Mendel; pianists Kathleen Brodnax, Zachary Griego-Dreicer, Karin Ebey, Sonja Ebey, Jennie Gao, Gala Nelson, Konstantin Nelson, Nikolai Nelson, Aidan Ortiz.

As winter turns officially to spring and summer is at hand, it is a wonderful time for photography. No one knows this better than local photographer, Maria Thibodeau. Thibodeau teaches English at Los Alamos High School in addition to her career as a photographer.

Rotarian Brian Newnam Shares Classification Talk

Rotarian Brian Newnam presented a classification talk at the April 15 Rotary Club meeting at the Manhattan Project Bar & Grill. Newnam was a laser physicist with Los Alamos National Laboratory for 30 years. As a violinist and violist, he has performed with the Orchestra of Santa Fe, the San Juan Symphony in Durango, and several other orchestras in Northern New Mexico. Originally from Massachusetts, Heather Ward has lived in Los Alamos for more than 10 years. She strives to create highly realistic drawings of animals, both wild and domestic, and pushes her media to the limits to achieve the effects she wants. Preferring to work with dry media, her favorites are charcoal, graphite, pyrography and scratchboard.

Family YMCA Presents ‘Got Dance’ Variety Showcase

The Family YMCA is hosting a “Got Dance” Variety Showcase at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 25 at New Beginnings Fellowship Church, 112 East Road in Los Alamos.

The performance will feature classical ballet on point, Irish dance, contemporary dance, International Latin and American rhythm ballroom dance, modern belly dance, Indian folk dance, hip hop, Kathak, Bollywood and contemporary dance.
