Star Wars Day … May The 4th Be With You!

The Los Alamos County Community Services Department is very excited to be promoting a variety of fun Star Wars Day events this Thursday, May 4.

Activities include photos with Star Wars Movie Characters, free stickers and temporary tattoos, arts and crafts hosted at Mesa Public Library, the Teen Center and Youth Activity Center 2-5 p.m., and an all ages costume and Lego contest at Ashley Pond (concert stage – must enter by 5:30 p.m.).

I  know that we thanked Mrs. Gerhart every time she led one of our young family members in band at the Los Alamos Middle School and with her serious business demeanor and greatly loving heart stood for the many years that we had a child or grandchild studying her direction.

She would show them that they, the kids, were being taken seriously by the people before them, ready and full of anticipation of what they had accomplished. The Los Alamos Nature Center is ending the month with a star workshop at 7 p.m. Friday, April 28 and an exciting astronomy film Phantom of the Universe at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30.
 
The Friday star workshop is a family-friendly two-hour program that starts by charting the major constellations in the planetarium. The Los Alamos Concert Association has engaged a rising young star, pianist Natasha Paremski, to replace Ingrid Fliter who has regretfully cancelled her performance May 7 for family reasons.
 
Ms. Paremski’s program will include Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Paganini and three mazurkas and the Scherzo No. 4 in E Major, Op. 54 by Chopin.
