Staff report

Many artists were on hand to talk about their work at Friday’s opening reception of “Behind the Scenes” at Fuller Lodge Art Center.

The show, which runs through March 9, spans mediums from fabric art, to stained glass, to sculpture, to ceramics, to jewelry, to set and costume design.

The Fifth Street Group, a collection of artist who gather weekly to focus on learning and camaraderie, sold their entire collection to Los Alamos residents Steve and Ann Greene.

Jim Tape, the sole photographer in the FSG, inspired his fellow artists with a photo he took of the moon. Patricia Baldwin, Elena Yang, Linda Boncella, Ginny Tape and Carole Whitmore each created personal interpretations of Tape’s photo and the Greenes fell in love with all of them.

An exhibit in the Portal Gallery at the Art Center by collage artist Susanna Friedel also opened Friday and runs through March 9.

Each of Friedel’s pieces comes with a backstory, making the exhibit a great accompaniment to “Behind the Scenes.” Friedel lives in Vienna, Austria.
