ART News

Local artist, writer, Web designer, and self-proclaimed Geek, Else Tennessen is a recent transplant to Los Alamos.

A staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Else has always pursued her artistic passions in her spare time. An avid user of Instagram, Else enjoys cataloguing the beauty of northern New Mexico, along with beautiful snapshots from her own life.

Currently Tennessen has been focusing on participating in the popular national art challenge Inktober, where artists post new art in response to a national one word prompt during the month of October.  Each day Else’s Instagram is updated with new art.

Artistically, Tennessen has a whimsical and approachable style, working in many different mediums, and often drawing inspiration from the culture of her “fandoms” (which include Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Doctor Who to name a few).

She produces work that is visually playful and uncluttered, reminding the viewer of the beautiful illustrations of a children’s book.  She also has an aptitude for combining different materials and mediums to produce highly textured work.

Work with Tennessen in a fun and relaxed environment in an upcoming class at Fuller Lodge Art Center. She will be sharing her love of her art form and techniques in an upcoming class focused on rubber stamp carving for the holidays 0 a.m. to noon Saturday Oct. 22.

This class will focus on producing beautiful and unique carved rubber stamps for the upcoming holidays (with a particular focus on Halloween). Patterns for each holiday will be available, but Else also hopes to assist students with their own custom designs, and is even offering a bonus technique on how to produce multicolored images from a single stamp.

The fee is $30, plus $25 for materials.
