PEEC News:
Local artist and teacher Monika Kaden has teamed up with the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) to offer a “plein air” painting excursion on Aug. 3.
This class will allow participants to explore the Los Alamos landscape through art. The emphasis of the class is to have fun painting in a beautiful Los Alamos outside setting, while creating a unique and personal work of art.
“En plein air” is a French expression, which means “in the open air,” and it is used to describe the act of painting outdoors.
“We don’t need to be somewhere far away or exotic,” Kaden said. “We have everything in walking distance in front of us – the very unique Los Alamos landscape. Let’s take advantage of this to appreciate the nature we’re surrounded by, and hold it in our paintings we create during our plein air sessions.”
The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.
The Fuller Lodge Art Center has nine working backpack easels that can be lent out for this event. Village Arts will offer a discount on art supplies for the class.
The medium for this class will be acrylics. PEEC will offer another plein air art class on Aug. 23, which will allow participants to choose from other mediums.
Kaden was educated at The University of Art and Design “Burg Giebichenstein” in the former East Germany and at Gerrit Rietfeld Academy for Art & Design in Amsterdam, Holland. She received her Masters of Fine Arts Degree from Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y.
Since 1999 she has lived and worked mostly in New Mexico and is an experienced artist and teacher. For more information about the artist, visithttp://monikakaden.com/.
