Applications Open for Jonathan Sherman Spradling Memorial Scholarships

New Mexico Community Foundation has announced that applications are now open for the Jonathan Sherman Spradling Memorial Scholarships for fall semester 2014.

Four awards of $1,000 each are available to New Mexico high school seniors who plan to attend a post high school educational institution in New Mexico. Students must have attended an eligible New Mexico high school and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0.

Jonathan Sherman Spradling (June 2, 1978 – Oct. 12, 2001), a native New Mexican, graduated from Artesia High School. He was a good student, class and Student Council leader and president. He was the recipient of several prestigious awards. He played on two state championship Bulldog football teams. Throughout his life Jonathan loved education, music, art and to read and write.

Spradling was just 23 at the time of his accident. At the University of New Mexico he was a senior studying English and history. His plans were to be a classroom teacher.
