Annual Inmate Craftsmanship And Trades Fair May 2

It’s that time of year when the New Mexico Corrections Department hosts the Inmate Craftsmanship and Trades Fair May 2.

The fair will feature inmate artists from 11 prisons across the state. Furniture, wood working, paintings, sewing and much more will be on display and for sale.

Proceeds from sales benefit victims, the offender’s children or designated family member, funds other inmate programs and is deposited into a savings account for the inmate artist. The rest of the money goes back to the inmate artist to re-invest in their craft for the next show. Tickets can be purchased here.

Also, tickets for the New Mexico State Penitentiary “Old Main” Prison tours are available now. Tours begin May 8-9 and include a tour Friday and Saturday of each month through October. Tours are open to anyone over the age of 16. All proceeds from the tours go back to the revitalization project to restore the Old Main Prison. Tickets can be purchased here:
