The National Federation Officials Association has selected Mountain Club Swimming Coach Anna Zhang of Los Alamos as the 2016-2017 Girl’s Swimming Official of the Year for the state of New Mexico.

The National Federation of State High School Associations annually recognizes up to 20 officials in each state for the outstanding service they provide for young people participating in high school sports across the country.

Zhang is both an official for the New Mexico Activities Association and New Mexico Swimming. She is participating in deck sessions to obtain her referee credentials.

As a swimming coach, Zhang not only coaches the Mountain Club, but also teaches Spotlight Swimming Lessons, a learning program run by Los Alamos County, teaching swimming to all ages from preschools to adults. Zhang also has been a voluntary instructor for high school freshmen and fourth grade students in the Los Alamos Public Schools for the last two years.

Zhang will be regognized at a special banquet July 28 in Albuquerque and said she is honored to receive this award and would like to share it with her fellow New Mexico officials for their contributions.
