Twenty dogs were surrendered to the shelter overnight last Saturday. Many shelters expect a 20 percent increase in their population following the two days after the 4th of July.

Please collar your dogs and cats with any type of identifier, a traditional tag or even an old rabies tag can get them reunited if they are not microchipped.

Did you know that Santa Fe Animal Shelter loves the donation of toilet paper tubes to make scented treat tubes for the kennel residents? There are many items that can be donated and many local volunteers that can take donations down to the shelter. Towels or blankets in good condition, new or old toys, any type of treats and canned dog, cat and kitten food are in huge demand.

If your workplace, neighborhood or club will collect donations, Champions of Youth Ambitions will pick them up and deliver them to the Los Alamos Animal Shelter.

How You Can Help

  • Volunteer to walk, socialize, or make treat tubes;
  • Foster a dog, cat, or kittens; and
  • Learn to bottle feed animals to help with kittens and puppies.

Call any shelter or text 505.695.9139.
