Animal Shelter Ad Hoc Advisory Committee Openings

The community is invited to submit applications for the Animal Shelter Ad Hoc Advisory Committee.

Applications can be submitted to lapd@lacnm.us or drop off at the Police Department located on 2500 Central Ave. The deadline for letters of interst is 5 p.m. Aug. 29. The committee will serves as an advisory body to the County Council for the purpose of working with assigned County staff and advising the County Council on the organizational structure of the Animal Shelter, the appropriateness of the shelter policies and procedures, and other issues that the Committee and County staff determine are material to the organization and operation of the Animal Shelter.

The Committee will be comprised of seven community volunteers with an interest in shelter operational models, shelter best practices, shelter policies and procedures and animal welfare. The Committee members shall be individually appointed by the County Council during the Sept. 4, County Council meeting and shall serve a term of not more than 540 days. Upon selection, the first meeting will be held the week of Sept. 17 at which time a Chair and Vice Chair shall be elected. A meeting schedule will then be established with the Committee meeting not less than once a month.

Applicants should submit a one or two-page letter of interest, which includes their name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Applicants should explain why they would like to serve on the Committee and what strengths and/or expertise they have which would contribute to the Committee’s Scope of Work as defined in the Animal Shelter Ad Hoc Advisory Committee Charter.
