In order to improve electric reliability in the downtown area, the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) plans a 10 a.m. to noon power outage Thursday, April 3 on Oppenheimer, Short, Los Arboles and Loma Vista Drive south of Trinity Drive.
Thursday’s outage will affect approximately 350 residents and several businesses, according to the DPU.
“The planned electric outage is needed so that our crews can safely install a new electric switch for this neighborhood,” said DPU’s Associate Engineer for Electric Distribution Steve Marez. “The switch will enable us to isolate the neighborhood and maintain power, while crucial infrastructure replacement occurs elsewhere, later this spring.”
Residents with medical devices will be notified in person, using the DPU’s established Medical Alert listing. Residents of the Oppenheimer, Short, Los Arboles and Loma Vista Drive area who have not yet reported their medical alert status are advised to contact the DPU at 505.662.8333 or DPU@lacnm.us to be placed on this list.
