AFCP & AFT New Mexico To Host Free Book Giveaway

AFT News:

ALBUQUERQUE — Members of the Albuquerque Federation of Classified Professionals (AFCP), AFT NM Local #4129, will hold a free book giveaway and family literacy event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 10, at the Berna Facio Professional Development Center.

In partnership with First Book, AFCP has secured nearly 6,000 books for students and families, spanning all age and reading levels, including bilingual books. These books will be given away free of charge until the books run out.

Since 1992, First Book has distributed more than 225 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income communities in all 50 states and provinces in Canada. First Book currently reaches an average of 5 million children every year and supports more than a third of the estimated 1.3 million classrooms and programs serving children in need.

The event will feature the book giveaway, information from community groups on services for New Mexico families, free food for the first 500 attendees, and visits from APS Board of Education members, New Mexico Legislators, NMPED Secretary Dr. Kurt Steinhaus, and APS Superintendent Scott Elder, among others.

All families with school-aged students are welcome to attend the event.
