PEEC News:

Meet adult and baby goats on Wednesday, July 18 at the Los Alamos Nature Center. The fun starts at 6:30 p.m. and is part of the Pajarito Environmental Education Center’s Summer Family Evenings series, which is sponsored by Del Norte Credit Union.

Join Second Bloom Farm and Gypsy Mountain Ranch to learn what it’s like to live on a modern, small-scale goat farm on the Pajarito Plateau. Debbie Wood of Second Bloom Farm and Jessie Ross of Gypsy Mountain Ranch will discuss how they care for their goats and what the goats need to live happily in Northern New Mexico.

Families will learn about how the farms use goats’ milk to make cheese, lotion, soap, and more. There will be a variety of goats at the nature center, both big and small!

Over the course of the summer, a variety of organizations, animals and more have visited the nature center on Wednesday evenings in June and July for Summer Family Evenings. The visit from local goats will be the penultimate event for the summer, with the Harrell House Bug Museum serving as this year’s last Summer Family Evening July 25.

Summer Family Evenings would not be possible without the generous support of Del Norte Credit Union. The programs are free for PEEC members or $5 per family for non-members. No registration is required and admission can be paid at the door. For more information about this and other PEEC programs, visit www.peecnature.org, email programs@peecnature.org or call 505.662.0460.

PEEC was founded in 2000 to serve the community of Los Alamos. It offers people of all ages a way to enrich their lives by strengthening their connections to our canyons, mesas, mountains, and skies. PEEC operates the Los Alamos Nature Center at 2600 Canyon Road, holds regular programs and events, and hosts a number of interest groups from birding to hiking to butterfly watching. PEEC activities are open to everyone; however, members receive exclusive benefits such as discounts on programs and merchandise. Annual memberships start at $35.
