JJAB News:

Summer has flown by, and autumn will be here before we know it!  As in years past, JJAB is holding our annual Winter Clothing Drive to help youth in our community stay warm as the weather turns cold.

JJAB is asking our community to make a financial donation to purchase winter clothing for students in all LAPS schools. JJAB Resource Specialists will work with our client families, school counselors, and community organizations to gather student needs. As finances allow, JJAB will purchase and provide the desired items directly to the students and schools. Items that are frequently needed by students and purchased through our Winter Clothing Drive include coats, snow boots, gloves, scarves and hats.

Through generous donations, JJAB has provided 272 youth with warm and stylish winter clothing since this program started in 2020. JJAB’s vision is that the children of Los Alamos are resilient, meaningfully connected, and have the capacity to thrive. Providing the warm winter essentials youth need allows them to thrive in their schools, homes, and community.

JJAB Executive Director Rachel Mohr-Richards stated, “Los Alamos is a great place to be a kid, and JJAB wants to ensure that ALL youth in our community have the cold winter gear they need to allow them to fully experience activities, including those that are outside. With the weather turning cooler, providing warm, stylish winter clothing is vital to ensuring youth feel valued and a part of their community.”

To ensure that winter clothing is available before the weather gets too cold, JJAB is asking to receive financial donations by Sept. 18, 2024.

There are two ways community members can donate:

  • Make an online donation at www.losalamosjjab.com; or
  • Mail a check payable to Los Alamos JJAB and note “winter clothing drive” on the check. Checks may be mailed to Los Alamos JJAB, P.O. Box 4716, Los Alamos, NM 87547.

All funds received will go directly to purchasing winter clothing, which will be distributed at the end of September.
