Meow Wolf Taos Vortex Music Festival Aug. 16-18

Los Alamos

TAOS ― Meow Wolf is bringing their popular Taos Vortex music festival back to Taos this weekend for the second year. Be warned … the inter-dimensional festival rift will only be open Friday, Aug. 16, and will close Sunday, Aug. 18, so get your passes now.

Headliners include Lykke Li, Claude VonStroke, George Clinton Parliament-Funkadelic, Flying Lotus 3D, Zhu, Calexico, Iron & Wine, and many other amazing artists.  Music genres include EDM, jazz, hip-hop, indie rock, house, electronica, soul, and more.  For full details on the lineup and schedule, check out the festival’s website:

Max B.K, Events Director for Meow Wolf, said, “We look forward to returning to Taos in support of their local economy and have a weekend lineup of musical artists that share in the sense of adventure. These are artists who are unafraid to push the envelope and experiment. We are delighted to be hosting the groundbreaking Flying Lotus 3D show, the iconic P-funk ringleader George Clinton, the fierce talent of Empress Of, and sibling freak folk from CocoRosie. We’ll also have performances from our favorite electronic stars, including the incredible Reggie Watts/John Tejada live project, Wajatta, electronic mysticism from Zhu, takeovers from the Desert Hearts and Soulection crews, booty-shakin’ house from DIRTYBIRD ring leader Claude VonStroke, and the genre-destroying Mija.”

In addition to amazing music, the event will feature Meow Wolf performers and characters, as well as amazing, interactive art experiences.   Last year’s event featured numerous art installations, including a 20-foot gorilla, light sculptures and a seven-eyed jaguar.  The immersive environment centers on the diverse neighborhoods and creatures that inhabit them.  Homes and huts are installed around the festival site for guests to step into and explore.

The festival grounds open at noon this Friday and are located at Kit Carson Park in Taos.  Kit Carson Park is located about 1.5 blocks north of the Taos Plaza.  Shuttle Passes are available; you can park in their designated shuttle area (Taos Rodeo Grounds).  Some parking may be available on the street; parking passes are sold out online.  Shuttle passes are $15.00, and car loading/unloading passes are $19.99.

Passes are still available for purchase!  Full weekend plus camping passes are $249.99, full weekend no camping passes are available for $199.99, and single-day passes are available for $89.99.  Want to make your experience extra amazing?  You can purchase a Big Vibe VIP add on for $249.99- this includes an exclusive viewing area, snacks, non-alcoholic drinks and unique, up close interactions with performers.  Child (12 and under) tickets are available for the full weekend for $29.99 with camping, or $24.99 without, or $19.99 single day, no camping.

Numerous food vendors will be on hand, including Jambo Café, Taos Cow Ice Cream, Cid’s Food Market, and more!  Water refills are available on site.  Don’t want to camp?  The festival is conveniently located in downtown Taos and within walking distance of many local lodging options.

The weather this weekend is expected to be perfect, mostly clear, 80 degrees during the day and 55-60 degrees at night.

Not sure if a music festival is for you?  Unlike larger music festivals, Taos Vortex offers a more intimate, carefully curated and artist oriented experience.  In addition to the festival, local adventures abound including white water rafting and balloon rides.  There will be a unique experience for everyone, even your kids.  Just keep a close eye on them, so they don’t vanish into the rift!

Meow Wolf is grateful for its partnership with the Town of Taos to produce the event and all of the denizens of Taos who are gracious enough to turn their park into the only music and art weekend event in New Mexico.

Current partners & sponsors of Taos Vortex 2019 are the City of Taos, AMP Concerts, PPC Solar, and Earthship Biotecture, with more to be announced soon.
