HEART COUNCIL News:
The Los Alamos Heart Council 2016 Health Fair is 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 24 in Griffith Gymnasium at Los Alamos High School, 1300 Diamond Dr.
The Official 2016 Health Fair Guide, complete with a booth map, is in the Thursday, Sept. 22 print edition of the Los Alamos Daily Post.
As in past years, there will be free flu shots available (for those 18 years and older) and discounted blood tests. Many of the dozens of booths at the Health Fair will have free screenings ranging from blood pressure, blood sugar levels and asthma to glaucoma.
The Fair has a section devoted to family and children’s health. For adults and kids alike, there will be an abundance of information about physician services, fitness, nutrition, health insurance, medications, allergies, chiropractic services, acupuncture, diabetes, natural medicine, emergency preparedness, and information on many other health and wellness topics and the organizations and businesses that serve all ages in our community promoting health, fitness, nutrition, safety and medical services. As always, there will be giveaways for kids and adults alike throughout the Fair
This year The Heart Council is partnering with Los Alamos Medical Center. LAMC has always been indispensable to the Fair and The Heart Council is proud to formalize that wonderful partnership.
The Fair has been a community staple for more than three decades in Los Alamos. The purpose of the Fair is to get our many local health and wellness providers; non-profit, County and State provider organizations; LANL and LAMC together with the community to improve the quality of health and wellness here in Los Alamos
There will be lots of activities for kids at this year’s Fair. Upstairs in the family booth area the Family YMCA is helping the Fair with an activities booth and the folks at Blue Sky Pilates are going to have some demonstrations for kids. Out front Friends of the Shelter will have some wonderful adoptable dogs to meet and the LAFD will have a kid’s fire training academy for kids to try their hand at the kind of skills real firefighters need to master.
Upstairs there will be booths with information on pregnancy, new-born care (including free back packs with newborn nutritional and health information), au pair child care services and the kid’s dentistry.
If you haven’t thought the Fair was a family activity in the past, come out this year: The kids will have a great time and parents can get valuable information.
Outside the gym will be the Classic Air Medical Helicopter. Inside, sections of the Fair are devoted to Fall Prevention for Older Adults and Behavioral Health Services for Adolescents and Adults.
Of course, this year’s Fair will include kids’favorite part of the Health Fair – The New Mexico Bank & Trust bike helmet giveaway! There will be 150 helmets given out on a first come, first serve basis to children accompanied by an adult. Helmets are free courtesy of New Mexico Bank & Trust and proper fittings will be done by the Los Alamos Tuff Riders Mountain Bike Club.
