Kohlrust reiterated that the elevator depicted in presentation slides is intended as a starting point for discussion and by no means is a final design. He explained that the County is still pursuing other options, including the current elevator’s location inside to see if it can work.

He added that the County has steered away from that as it has always thought that taking up more of the Green Room would be less tolerable to the public than placing it outside but added that staff is still looking into the potential impact of it going there, and to see if there is enough clearance above it to not impact the roof.

During Wednesday’s Fuller Lodge Historic Districts Advisory Board meeting, County Project Manager Wayne Kohlrust and representatives from Mullen Heller Architecture P.C. discussed the potential need to replace the existing elevator located inside the historic building.

Wednesday’s public discussion centered on the ongoing design for the Fuller Lodge Renovations Phases 2-4 and the Historical Museum Renovations. With these renovations there may be a requirement to bring Fuller Lodge into ADA compliance, as is often the case when old buildings are upgraded. The existing elevator is small and was built as more of a service elevator.

Fuller Lodge Phases 2-4 Renovation includes work on the west and east entries, remodel of the first floor restrooms, wing window replacements, stucco color coat, wood inlay refreshing, remodel of the reception area, landscaping, concrete work near the kitchen entrance, and replacement of the existing elevator.

The Historical Museum work includes numerous exterior refurbishments, HVAC replacement, fire alarm work, ADA restroom upgrades, floor refinishing and other associated work. Once Mullen-Heller Architects completes design, bid documents will be developed and advertised with a target award of construction in late fall 2015. Renovations on both facilities would begin in January 2016.

The County is launching an Open Forum question Friday and encourages the public to weigh in on this issue. For additional information, contact the Community & Economic Development Department at 505.662.8120.
