Special Events within 2015 NMAA Championships

*The 2015 Casas Del Rio Tennis Championships will provide a tremendous educational opportunity for student-athletes, coaches, tournament staff, and spectators. Thursday, May 7 at 2 p.m., the USTA Northern NM Tennis Association in conjunction with the Wheelchair Tennis Committee (headed by Enrique Aguilar; 505.270.5512), will put on a demonstration of wheelchair tennis for our high school student-athletes and coaches.

Following the exhibition, the student-athletes will have the opportunity to get into the chairs and try their hand at wheelchair tennis. Members of the group will also talk with the kids about the nuances of the game, differences in rules, etc.

The Jerry Cline Tennis Center has taken the lead in offering wheelchair tennis to the NM Tennis Community. They have widened their court gates to accommodate chairs and have a supply of chairs on hand at the facility for use. The contact at the Jerry Cline Tennis Complex is Bob Curtis (505.720.8546). The NMAA is also hosting a fast serve and accuracy competition at the same time for players who have been eliminated from the tournament.

**The 2015 Sonic Drive-In State Track & Field Championships will also provide a special opportunity for individuals with disabilities. For the first time in the history of the state high school track meet, the NMAA has partnered with Special Olympics to provide an exhibition event for high school students with disabilities. During the A-3A and 4A-6A meets, this exhibition 100 Meter Dash will be offered on the Saturday of each event.

The A-3A meet will feature one heat which will take place at 12:11 p.m., with the 4A-6A meet holding two heats which will begin at 12:11 p.m. and 12:14 p.m. Several high schools from around the state will be represented in this exciting exhibition and new addition to the NMAA State Track Meet.

For more information regarding any of the NMAA Spring State Championship events, please contact Dusty Young, NMAA Associate Director at 505.977.5385.
