STAFF REPORT

The Los Alamos County Council this evening recognized Jemez House Thrift Shop as the 2014 Los Alamos County Business Recycler of the Year.

The Business Recycler of the Year award is sponsored by the Los Alamos County Environmental Services Division and the Los Alamos County Environmental Sustainability Board.

The Business Recycler of the Year Award is a great avenue to promote recycling in the business community and get more businesses participating in the program. To become eligible, a business is nominated by a member of the community for contributing to recycling and waste reduction. The nominations are presented to the Environmental Sustainability Board and the Board selects the top three businesses based on information provided by staff and their knowledge of local businesses.

Once narrowed down to the three finalists, the voting process begins and is open to the general public. Los Alamos County Environmental Services received three nominations for the second annual Business Recycler of the Year Award:

  • Enterprise Computer Consulting;
  • Jemez House Thrift Shop; and
  • Los Alamos Co+op Market.

The voting process was conducted via an online survey. A majority of the votes were in favor of Jemez House Thrift Shop as the 2014 Los Alamos County Business Recycler of the Year.
