Objectives: Mitigate the risk of future high-intensity destructive wildfires, provide point protection for historical sites and jurisdictionboundaries, improve forest health and promote the growth of grasses and shrubs that provide habitat for game and non-game species.
Summary: Fire managers have decided to move forward with the management of the lighting caused 138 Fire to meet multiple objectives. Fire behavior has been low to moderate as it creeps slowly through pine litter and ground fuels. Crews have prepared an area surrounding the present location of the fire to include a possible addition of 324-acres. Firing operations will begin today and are expected to last until Monday.
Smoke: Smoke is expected to drift northeast during the day and settle into drainages to the southeast during the night. Smoke may be visible from Cochiti Pueblo, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, the I-25 corridor, and surrounding communities. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory problems are encouraged to take precautionary measures.
