COMMUNITY News:

The Los Alamos group, 100+ Women Who Care is hosting a gathering 5:30-8 p.m., Thursday at Unquarked Wine Room in Central Park Square.

The 100+ Women Who Care group was formed earlier this year by Carol A. Clark, Deb Shelton, Marvel Harrison, Stephanie Garcia Richard and Kristy Ortega. Its mission is to reach out and help the community by collecting contributions for local nonprofits – without the time-consuming effort normally associated with fundraising.

“Women in Los Alamos are invited to attend Thursday’s gathering at Unquarked. Please know that the amount you contribute is not nearly as important as having your energy, ideas and camaraderie. Feel free to attend and contribute if/when you can,” Ortega said. “Thanks so much for being a part of this positive change in our community!”

RSVP to kristy@unitedwaynnm.org to attend Thursday’s event. Also, bring a snack to share and a friend!

Last summer the group of 100+ women gathered for its first event and raised $10,000, which the United Way of Northern New Mexico matched. The funds are being donated to behavioral health initiatives in Los Alamos.

“The idea is to keep it local and have an impact that we can see in our community,” Ortega said. “We invite other women to become part of this powerful group to have a positive impact on those in need in our community.”

The group meets four times a year and members donate up to $100 each to help fund behavioral health projects in the local community. To become a member of the 100 Women Who Care as an individual or with a team or to learn more, contact Ortega at kristy@unitedwaynnm.org or call 505.663.3891.
