Fall in Los Alamos means you’ll see lots of people running—city residents running for health, high school and middle school students in team practices, but there’s also one other group you just might see—the Atomic City Track Club youth runners. Coach Erika Wisdom founded the USATF Junior Olympic running team in fall of 2015.

The rain didn't dampen 'Topper spirits at Saturday's New Mexico Cross Country Championship, although it did make the course a lot less sandy than usual.
Our Boys took 3rd place behind Albuquerque Academy and Kirtland Central.

Los Alamos NJROTC Defeats Lehman NJROTC

Los Alamos NJROTC defeated Lehman NJROTC 877 to 830 last week in the National Air Rifle League.
Their second win in a row, Los Alamos NJROTC is in fifth place in their Division with a 3-2 record. Los Alamos NJROTC was led by Neil Wilkerson who shot a 245. The remaining contributing members were Julio Shipman, Kaden Lim, and Thomas Kwei. Los Alamos NJROTC is from Los Alamos, NM, and is coached by Wes Shumaker.

Lehman NJROTC dropped to 1-4 on the season. They are currently in seventh place in their Division.

Local Cubs Fan Rejoices 71 Years Later!

The Chicago Cubs have appeared in 11 World Series. The 1906 Cubs won 116 games, finishing 116–36 and posting a modern-era record winning percentage of .763, before losing the World Series to the Chicago White Sox ("The Hitless Wonders") by four games to two.

The Los Alamos Boy’s Varsity Soccer team took great strides of success this season but fell short in the end.

The Toppers had many highs and lows this season and deserved all of their successes. They started off their farewell state tournament Oct. 29 at Los Alalmos High School with a bang at home against the Goddard Rockets.

INDIANAPOLIS — A study conducted by the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and funded by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Foundation revealed that high school athletes who specialize in a single sport sustain lower-extremity injuries at significantly higher rates than athletes who do not specialize in one sport.

In case you don’t know, it’s senior night, it’s a district championship, it’s potentially the last home game of the season, and that’s just the football game. For 10 young men it could be the last time they put on the topper uniform and run out of the helmet.

Los Alamos Xtreme Youth Football League (LAYFL) won the season ending championship game Oct. 30 clinching the victory over Pojoaque Crush in the 7-8 year old tackle football division in the Northern New Mexico Children’s Football League (NNMCFL) Zia Bowl in Santa Fe with a 20 – 0 victory. Los Alamos.
LA Xtreme won the regular season with a 7-1 record scoring 224 points against opponents, and only allowing 32 points. In the post season LA Xtreme clinched the Zia bowl in two games with a total offense of 27 points and allowing 0.

Los Alamos High School Boys Varsity Soccer will play at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at Sullivan Field.

The community is encouraged to attend and support the 5th ranked Class 5A Toppers as they face the 12th ranked Goddard Rockets.  

This is a preliminary State Tournament game.

The Los Alamos High School Girl’s golf team went into their last two fall tournaments needing to post a low score in one of those two in order to qualify for the state tournament. They wound up posting qualifying scores in both!

LAHS Volleyball Teams Participate In Dig Pink Games

Wednesday night, Oct. 19 was the dig pink games for the Los Alamos High School Volleyball teams. 
The teams wore pink to raise awareness and money for Breast Cancer Research. Players dedicated the games to family, friends or teachers who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

SANTA FE — It’s time to gear up for another season on the slopes!
The Santa Fe Ski Team is hosting its annual Ski Swap Friday, Oct. 28-29 at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center (GCCC) in Santa Fe.
The Santa Fe Ski team invites the public to participate in the event – drop off winter sport gear between noon and 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. There is a $2 concession fee and 20 percent of the sales benefit the Santa Fe Ski Team.

In Santa Fe, the Boys U10 LAFC White Lasers improved their record to 3-1-1 with a 5-3 win over Santa Fe Johansen. Strong goalie play by Will Borovina, Liam Cunningham and Asher Koh kept the game close, while Eric Mecham and Sammy Brown-Salazar each scored a goal and Cunningham had a hat trick.

In White Rock, the Boys U10 LAFC Green Lasers beat the SF Boukhalfa 7-5 to up their record to 5-0-0. Taelin Stanfield and Max Olso each had a hat trick, and Dhruv Thulasidasan scored one. Will Hamilton played well in goal making several good saves.

Registration For YMCA's Youth Basketball Program Ends Oct. 27

Registration for The Family YMCA's Youth Basketball program ends Oct. 27. The program is for girls and boys in grades 1-6 and starts Nov. 1.

It is a skills development program, which includes competitive games on Saturdays during the months of December and January. Players are placed on teams based on their local school and will practice twice a week. The teams are co-ed for 1st-2nd grade, but boys and girls will be on separate teams for 3rd-4th grades and 5th-6th grades.

Cost is $120 / $90 for Y Members.

The Los Alamos High School Boys' Golf Team played Thursday at the APS Golf Invitational at Los Altos Golf Course.

The LAHS Boys' Golf Team earned its first team state qualifying leg of the season. They will need two more by the end of the season (3 total) for the team to qualify for the state championship at Canyon Club in ABQ in May.

The Los Alamos High School Girl’s Golf team participated in the 5A only tournament invite hosted by Albuquerque Academy at the Canyon Club Golf Course.
Los Alamos took advantage of the opportunity to play the course that will be hosting the 5A State tournament in early May. The girl’s team finished the tournament in 2nd place behind St. Pius X.

The Los Alamos High School Hilltoppers Varsity Football team took on the Albuquerque Academy Chargers Friday, Oct. 14 at home. Decked out with pink accessories in support of breast cancer, the Hilltoppers shined under the Friday night lights beating the Chargers 44-7.
The blowout started with a run by Kevin Maresca for 80 yards to give the Toppers a 6 point lead in just 13 seconds.
