YMCA Little Youth Soccer Registration Ends April 11 - Season Starts April 17

The Family YMCA’s Little Youth Soccer is an introductory program for youth ages 4-7 that would like to learn the basics of soccer, team participation, and to play a few casual games.
 
Registration for this program ends April 11. Players will meet twice per week for practice and games, April 17 – May 25.
 
Volunteer Coaches, Asst. Coaches and Team Parents are needed.
 
Cost is $62 / $41 for Y Members. Please contact Jeremy Smith, the Sports & Adventure Director with any questions. As always, financial assistance is available thanks to the YMCA Annual Campaign.

Sipapu Ski Resort First To Open Last To Close

SKI News:

Known as the New Mexico ski resort that is first to open and last to close, Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort will once again achieve that status for the 14th consecutive year. The last weekend for operations is this Saturday and Sunday.

Ski for a great cause! Sipapu is offering FREE lift tickets Saturday and Sunday with a donation of any amount to the La Jicarita Food Basket, a local organization dedicated to stopping hunger in Northern New Mexico. All donations will be taken at the Ticket Office in exchange for a free lift ticket.

LAHS NJROTC Cadets Competing In Junior Olympics

Two cadets from LAHS NJROTC are heading to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs to compete in the 2017 Junior Olympics beginning this weekend. Samantha Miller, a senior and the Rifle Team Captain, will compete in both Women’s Air Rifle and .22 Small Bore and Jacob Torrez, a junior, will compete in Men’s Air Rifle. Their dedication and hard work to this sport has taken them to compete all over the United States, and this is just one more prestigious event in their journey.

Jared Mang Named Mountain West Player Of Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of New Mexico baseball team collected its fifth Mountain West Player of the Week award – with a fourth player to win it – as Jared Mang of Los Alamos was named this week's winner Monday by the conference.

Mang hit .471 (8-for-17) during a week that saw the first-place Lobos beat in-state foe New Mexico State on the road Tuesday and take two of three at home from Fresno State over the weekend to improve their record to 11-1 in conference play.

The girls took on the Albuquerque Academy Chargers in a pair of games at Overlook Park. This was the 'Toppers' first district game and starting the season on a winning note would be a bonus. The 'Toppers started the game by putting two quick runs on the board.

Hilltoppers Flourish At Tournament In Phoenix

Locally grown talent flourished at the 38th annual President’s Day Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz, where more than 400 teams participated from four countries and 25 states. On Sunday battling poor conditions, the 99s found a way to win 2-1 taking them to the championship match against an opponent they knew well, New Mexico Rush 00. After a weather shortened 60 minutes of scoreless soccer, the game was decided by kicks from the mark. Rio prevailed knocking in four goals while Rush was only able to tally two.

Charlotte “Charlie” Ulrich, a ninth grader at Los Alamos High School, has been invited to ski at the North America Junior Freeride Championships April 5-9 at Kirkwood Mountain, Calif. Ranked third in North America in the 12-14 year-old female ski category, she is in her second year of training and competing with the Taos Winter Sports Team and has been sponsored this season by Head-Ski.
