LAPS To Host Community Meeting To Discuss White Rock Attendance Zone Changes

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools invites the public to attend a community meeting to discuss the proposed attendance zone changes in White Rock 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2 at Piñon Elementary School.

The proposed zone changes will help balance the school population sizes at Chamisa Elementary and Piñon Elementary, both of which are undergoing construction of new school buildings. The new schools will accommodate 375 students after construction is complete. SANTA FE —The New Mexico Supreme Court has rejected a utility’s appeal for a financial incentive under a law requiring greater production of electricity from renewable energy sources.

In a unanimous opinion, the Court affirmed the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission’s (PRC) denial of a request by Southwestern Public Service Co. (SPS) in 2021 for a rate rider that would have allowed it to collect an additional $5.2 million from customers over three years for exceeding requirements under the state’s Renewable Energy Act (REA).

By late 2026, the majority of Los Alamos’s electric power will come from the sun! The County recently inked a 20-year deal to purchase power from a large photovoltaic field and battery bank to be built a few miles northwest of Farmington.

Remarkably, the new solar power will cost LESS than the coal- and gas-based power it replaces.

FBI: Woman Faces Federal Charges For Murdering Sons

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE – A woman is facing federal charges for murdering her two young children on the Isleta Pueblo. Mariah Zuni, 32, of Isleta Village, has appeared in federal court for an initial appearance and will remain in temporary custody pending a detention hearing, which was scheduled for March 27, 2024.

The criminal complaint alleges that on March 21, 2024, Zuni used a bread knife to slit the throats of her 5-year-old son and 9-month-old son in their residence on the Isleta Pueblo.

If convicted of the current charges, Zuni faces life in prison.
