LAPS News:
The Los Alamos Public School Board met Thursday evening, May 28 for a work session.
Board President Ellen Ben-Naim and members Julia Baker, Christine Bernstein and Dawn Jalbert joined the virtual meeting via Google Meet.
The meeting started with recognitions by the board. Ben-Naim acknowledged the contributions of senior student liaisons Ogden Berry, Zoe Butler and Justin Pena for their contributions to the School Board over the past two years.

LAPS Expands New Mexico Preschool Program
LAPS News:
Los Alamos Public Schools is happy to announce that it will expand its New Mexico Preschool programs for the 2020-2021 school year.
New Mexico Preschool programs will be available at Piñon Elementary in White Rock and Mountain Elementary in Los Alamos.
Each program will be an extended day program that runs five hours per day. Students will have a certified teacher and instructional assistants in each classroom.
All Los Alamos County residents with children who will be 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2020 are encouraged to apply. Students do not have to reside within the Mountain or Piñon school Read More

Three days of individual graduations concluded Friday for all but one of the 279 members of the Class of 2020 at Los Alamos High School.
Senior Katie Herrmann missed her graduation because as she opened the door to her car in the high school parking lot to head inside for the ceremony her beloved dog Simon jumped from her car and took off like a shot for parts unknown. Read More

The final round of the Superintendent’s Project Challenge is over as the school semester comes to an end.
Fifty-two entries were received for Round 4 bringing the total number of entries for the entire contest to 225.
The enthusiasm, imagination and innovation generated by the contest far exceeded expectations, creating a bright spot during challenging times for students this semester.

ECECD Holds First Of Four Transition Committee Meetings In Partnership With The Hunt Institute

SANTA FE — The Early Childhood Education and Care Department’s Transition Committee (ECECD) Thursday hosted its first of four meetings.
The three-hour gathering, coordinated by The Hunt Institute and conducted via Zoom, addressed challenges and opportunities facing ECECD as it prepares for its July 1 launch.

Highlands University Receives COVID-19 Grant To Present Financial Literacy Seminars At No Charge

Los Alamos High School wraps up a month long series of festivities for the Class of 2020 with a special parade Saturday morning on Diamond Drive. Due to the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic, school was canceled for the remainder of the year, which also canceled the traditional graduation ceremony. LAHS Parade Of Graduates Begins 10 A.M. Saturday
LAHS News:
Los Alamos High School will wrap up “Celebrate Our Seniors” month with a Parade of Graduates starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30.
The community is invited to celebrate the seniors’ accomplishments and show Topper Pride as members of the Class of 2020 proceed along Diamond Drive.
Social Distancing restrictions are in effect and public gatherings are still not allowed, so everyone participating is encouraged to stay in their vehicle and be especially mindful to wear masks and maintain a six-foot physical distance from any other non-household members.
