Los Alamos School Board Meeting Highlights Feb. 9

The Los Alamos School Board met for a regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 9. President Melanie Colgan opened the meeting by recognizing Los Alamos High School (LAHS) Librarian Shannon Seitz and her student assistant, Kira Lorenc, for contributions to Black History Month.

Lorenc created a WebQuest with more than 35 reliable websites exploring topics such as the foundations of Black History Month, significant Black figures and noteworthy historical events.

LAPS Is On Two-Hour Delay Due To Snow

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools is on a two-hour delay this morning due to inclement weather.

All elementary morning half-day in-person programs are canceled. All in-person PreK-12 special education morning classes are canceled as well.

This month’s League of Women Voters’ community event “Lunch with a Leader” is noon Tuesday, Feb. 16, via zoom. (Next month meeting is on Thursday again.)

Del Norte Credit Union’s LOV Foundation Kicks Off 2021 With Announcement Of Plans To Award $10,000 In Scholarships

SANTA FE — The Del Norte LOV (Living Our Vision) Foundation, a nonprofit organization and extension of Del Norte Credit Union announces the opening of the 2021-22 scholarship program aimed at awarding $10,000 to local graduation seniors or equivalent.

The program celebrated its 10th anniversary last year and has awarded a combined $94,000 in scholarships funds to over 90 deserving members.

Santa Fe – Thursday, the New Mexico House of Representatives unanimously passed legislation prohibiting schools’ discrimination or discipline of students based on their use of natural or protective hairstyles, or wearing of cultural or religious headdresses.
