New Mexico COVID-19 Update: 255 New Cases, Total 188,907 With 12 New Death And 168,976 Patients Recovered

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials today announced 255
additional COVID-19 cases.
Los Alamos County reports two more cases today so the total is now 492 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

Today’s update includes 12 more deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

The New Mexico Department of Health reports today’s most recent cases:

LAPS: School Board Update From March 9 Meeting

The Los Alamos School Board met for a regular meeting Tuesday, March 9. President Melanie Colgan opened the meeting with a moment of silence in memory of Las Cruces School Superintendent Karen Trujillo.

“She touched many lives as an educator and is going to be sorely missed,” Colgan said.

County Council Rejects Buying CB Fox And Reel Deal

In a 5-2 vote, Los Alamos County Council rejected the opportunity to purchase the CB Fox and Reel Deal movie theater properties during its Tuesday night work session.

Councilors Sara Scott and David Izraelevitz cast the two opposing votes.

Scott and Izraelevitz proposed extending the due diligence period on the purchase agreement for 30 days to further investigate the potential purchases but the motion failed to pass in a 2-5 vote.

COVID Vaccine Booster Clinic Smith Auditorium Wednesday

COUNTY News:

The New Mexico Department of Health is holding a COVID-19 vaccine clinic noon to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday for second “booster” Pfizer shots.

Only booster shots will be administered. The clinic will be at Duane Smith Auditorium and participants should have already been notified of their appointment time by DOH email or text message.

No walk-ins will be accepted; participants must have an appointment.

County Offering COVID Vaccines To Homebound Residents

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County’s Emergency Management Office, in coordination with the Social Services Office, have begun offering COVID vaccines to those who meet the current criteria for the vaccine as defined by the State of New Mexico, but who may be homebound for medical reasons and therefore unable to attend a vaccine clinic at a local facility.

Local Vaccine Clinic Monday March 15 – Appointments Only

COUNTY News:

Nambe Drugs, Los Alamos County, and the New Mexico Department of Public Health (NMDOH) are holding a vaccine clinic Monday, March 15 at the Auxiliary Gym at Los Alamos High School, 1300 Diamond Dr.

Appointments are required to receive a vaccine. No walk-ins will be accepted.  

Note: This clinic includes booster appointments for individual who received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine Feb. 14.

County officials remind individuals that upon appointment check-in they will need to provide the NMDOH confirmation code as well as insurance and Medicare cards as applicable.

As far as the pandemic – the future is starting to look hopeful. It was on that optimistic note that the Los Alamos County Council approved an amendment to the general services agreement with Sancre Productions, LLC during its Tuesday night 9 meeting.

The county has proposed to purchase two properties in Los Alamos, the CB Fox department store and the Reel Deal Theater. We’ve seen an extraordinary number of business closures in Los Alamos, and White Rock is even worse.

Can we buy up all the empty space and make use of it? Of course not, so why start with these two properties?
