New Mexico COVID-19 Cases Now At 25,612 With 3 More Deaths And 13,180 Patients Recovered

STATE News:

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 154 additional positive tests for COVID-19.

Los Alamos County remains at 27 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.

Today’s update announces 3 additional deaths reported in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

The New Mexico Department of Health reported today the most recent cases:  

  • 24 new cases in Bernalillo County
  • 3 new cases in Catron County
  • 24 new cases in Chaves County
  • 1 new case in Colfax County
  • 5 new cases in Curry County
  • 33 new cases in Doña Ana County
  • 13 new cases in Eddy County

Stolen Vehicles Lead NM State Police To Chop Shop Probe

LOS LUNAS – During mid August, New Mexico State Police recovered six stolen motor vehicles in Los Lunas.

The vehicles were reported stolen from the Albuquerque and Valencia County areas.

During the investigation, State Police officers learned several stolen motor vehicles were seen entering and leaving a residence at 37 Carmel Road in Los Lunas.

As a result of successful firefighting efforts, the 3,721 acre Medio Fire activity is winding down as suppression repair activities continue around the fire perimeter.

The fire, now 59 percent contained, was sparked by lightning Aug. 17 on Rio en Medio Trail on the  Española Ranger District in Santa Fe National Forest.

FBI: Chase Smothermon Gets 45 Years For Heinous Crimes

ALBUQUERQUE — A federal judge sentenced Chase Smothermon, 32, of Albuquerque to 45 years in prison for abducting and assaulting two men, one of whom was tortured, killed and mutilated.

Smothermon suspected the victims of stealing drugs and money from his home.

 Smothermon pleaded guilty Jan. 24 in Federal Court in Santa Fe. An indictment charged Smothermon, and two other residents of Albuquerque, Mariah Ferry, 22, and Jose Torrez, 48, with kidnapping, kidnapping resulting in death, and conspiracy to kidnap.
