New Mexico Legislature Allocates $5 Million To Food Banks

NMHSD News:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Human Services Department (NMHSD) was appropriated $5 million from House Bill 1, during the second special session of the New Mexico Legislature held in November to support and supplement emergency feeding operations at food banks across the state.

Environment Department COVID Watchlist Update: Dec. 12

NMED News:

The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) has updated its daily Rapid Response COVID-19 Watchlist, which includes New Mexico places of employment that have had two or more rapid responses in the last 14 days.

There are 147 establishments on the Watchlist.

The current Rapid Response COVID-19 Watchlist and closure list, which includes all establishments that have been required to close, are posted here.

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials announced this afternoon 1,803 additional positive tests for COVID-19.

Los Alamos County reports 10 more cases today … the total is now 206 people who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Today’s update includes 24 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

The New Mexico Department of Health reported today the most recent cases:

ALBUQUERQUE —  Attorney General Hector Balderas announced Wednesday the filing of charges against Leo Martinez and Robbie Proffitt for embezzlement and defrauding of Pareo Farms, a family dairy farm in Valencia County.

Martinez and Proffitt were each arrested and charged with five felony counts for stealing approximately $500,000 worth of bulk hay that they were supposed to have delivered to the farm, selling that stolen hay to another business, and fraudulently billing Pareo Farms for delivery of the hay that was never delivered.

SFNF Looking For Window To Implement La Cueva, East Rowe Mesa Prescribed Burns Dec. 14, 2020-March 31, 2021

SANTA FE — Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) are looking at a potential window between Dec. 14, 2020 and March 31, 2021, to implement the previously announced burns to reduce the risk of wildfire.

The 133-acre La Cueva pile burn approximately 5 miles west of Pecos on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District is designed to remove woody debris from a previously thinned area. Winter is an optimal time to burn slash piles because snow on the ground keeps the fire from spreading to adjacent vegetation.
