Los Alamos School of Gymnastics Trio Wins Gold

Kayli Lincoln, Aaliyah Walker and Suyana Ferreria of Los Alamos School of Gymnastics placed first in the all-around competition in their divisions Oct. 26 at a meet in Santa Fe. The gymnasts brought home 13 gold medals for their team.

Twenty-five Los Alamos School of Gymnastics gymnasts attended the meet in Santa Fe. Twelve gymnasts competed in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic (JO) Program, 10 in the USA Gymnastics Xcel Program and three, Aaliyah Walker, Anna Clark, and Suyana Ferreria, competed in both.

Los Alamos Pony Club Hosts Horse Show

Los Alamos Pony Club hosted a horse show at the rodeo arena on North Mesa Saturday, Oct. 26 and among the features was a costume class in which both horses and riders were decorated for the season. The show was a success, providing operating funds for the educational and leadership programs of Los Alamos Pony Club, which is a member organization of the United States Pony Clubs, Inc. Registration Opens for Aligned Core Conditioning Class

Sports Alignment Coach Jessica Kisiel is launching an Aligned Core Conditioning Class next week.
 
Class Description: Joint position is the foundation of strength. Training, if done incorrectly can contribute to poor posture and ingrain compensated movement patterns that can lead to joint deterioration, muscle imbalances and pain. In this class, participants will learn how to get straight and strong. Class will consist of body weight and dumbbell exercises for mobility, stability and strength. Correct form and controlled movement will be emphasized.

Paint Spill Removal Underway at Bandelier

BANDELIER News:

San Bar Construction Corporation continues work to remove paint associated with a September 2012 vehicle accident within Bandelier National Monument’s boundary. Crews began work last Monday and are expected to continue into this week. There will be no road closures during removal operations.

The paint spill is a result of a tractor-trailer accident that occurred Sept.

Update on Condition of Los Alamos Trails

Los Alamos County Open Space Specialist Craig Martin has completed his assessment of trail conditions following the Friday the 13th storms.

Trail Conditions as of Oct. 17:

Due to flooding and construction work on the Los Alamos Reservoir, the road to the reservoir is currently closed.

Floods damaged a section of the Pueblo Canyon Rim Trail near the Los Alamos Cooperative Market. Look for trail detour signs that lead across an entry road to the New Mexico Consortium Building to avoid the damaged and hazardous section of trail.

Try Hockey Free Day Nov. 23

LAHA News:

Co-sponsored by the Los Alamos Hockey Association (LAHA), this is a chance for youth of all ages to try ice hockey on for size. LAHA volunteer coaches will be available to assist with equipment fitting, helmet and skate fitting, and on-ice activities. 

Sessions begin at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 for all youth 18 and under and at 5 p.m. for girls 18 and under. Be sure to get there early to try on equipment and talk with the coaches prior to going out on the ice.
