Local Horse Show Winners Announced

The Los Alamos County Recreation Division presented the Los Alamos County Horse Show Saturday, July 20 at Brewer Arena.

Los Alamos County Horse Show 2013 Overall winners:

  • 9 and Under First Place, Sammy Balsamo

  • Second Place, Bella Blair

  • 10-13 First Place, Marion Balsamo

  • Second Place, Mireya Martinez

  • 14-18 First Place, Juliet Balsamo

  • Second Place, Julia Montoya

  • Adult First Place, Lisa McClellan

  • Second Place, David Ramsay

Valles Caldera Trust Seeks Public Input

JEMEZ SPRINGSThe Valles Caldera Trust is asking for public input as the staff continues its efforts to establish a comprehensive strategy for future public access on the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

The trust is preparing a Transportation Recreation and Suitability Study (TRSS) to develop the permanent transportation and recreation infrastructure beyond the future visitor center. A critical piece of that study is to acquire public feedback on several topics related to transportation, recreation and infrastructure development.

Third Splash n Dash Wednesday

The Triatomics’ Splash n Dash #3 will be this Wednesday night. Registration will open at 6:30 p.m. at the back of the Aquatic Center and the first swimmer pushes off at 7 p.m

This is a free event sponsored by the Triatomics Multisports Club, LA County Parks and Rec, and Los Alamos National Bank. 

There are three courses this year, a 400M swim and 5K run, a 200M swim and 3K run, and for athletes ages 6 to 12, a 100M swim and 1.3 mile run.

Spectators and players braved a thunderstorm as the Los Alamos M'Atom Bombs hosted the Dirty Curry Prairie Dollz from Clovis Saturday night.

Down a player after an injury in the first half, the Bombs fell to the Clovis team 54-45 during the action-pack competition at Los Alamos Ice Rink.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters Golf Tournament Saturday

Saturday will mark the second year for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northern New Mexico Golf Tournament. The tournament will take place at The Los Alamos Municipal Golf Course (LAGC).

The main focus of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northern New Mexico is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Fundraising endeavors ensure the group has increased capacity to respond to increased needs in this community.
