Andy Bond Discusses Avalanches With Mountaineers

MOUNTAINEERS News:

Join the Los Alamos Mountaineers Tuesday, April 25 at the Los Alamos Nature Center for a presentation by Andy Bond of the Taos Avalanche Center.

Social time is at 6:45 p.m. and reports of recent and upcoming trips at 7 p.m. The program begins at 7:30 p.m.

Bond and Graham Turnage founded the Taos Avalanche Center in 2016 as an independent nonprofit.

SFNF Fire Crews Meet Objectives On Watershed Prescribed Burn

SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) said that the prescribed burn implemented one week ago in the Santa Fe Municipal Watershed successfully met objectives, removing heavy fuels to reduce the risk of high-intensity wildfire and restore the landscape to historic conditions.
 
Although aerial and hand ignitions were completed April 11, the 340-acre treatment area still has a few interior pockets of fuel that are smoldering, which may create visible smoke in the Santa Fe metro area.

Golf Course Improvements Long Overdue

Improvements to the Los Alamos Golf Course are long overdue. The last major capital improvements to the course occurred in 1970 and its irrigation system is 30 years old.

If passed, the $20 million recreation bond would provide an estimated $4.5 million to fix up the golf course.

Letter To The Editor: Vote No On Recreation Bond

Once again it appears that a number of our fellow Los Alamos citizens feel compelled to spend our tax dollars to benefit a limited number of county residents.
 
In this particular case, the Recreation Bond Proposal is being championed by several special interest groups. These include supporters of the already-once-defeated recreational (now called multi-generational) pool, local hockey enthusiasts, softball players, and golfers.

SPORTS News:

The Nukes Rugby Club from Los Alamos and the United World College (UWC) Montezumas squared off last Friday evening at Sullivan Field for some rugby rumble. 

UWC has students from at least 65 countries, ages 16-19. There team had players from at least eight countries, which made for a very interesting roster.
