YMCA Accepts Youth Conservation Corps Applications

Applications for summer employment with The Family YMCA’s Youth Conservation Corps trail crew will be taken until 8 p.m. March 13. Hiring for this program is restricted to those ages 14-25.

Application packets and job descriptions are available on the Y’s website at, at the YMCA 1450 Iris St., and at the Los Alamos and Española YMCA teen centers. Completed applications require two letters of reference and may be turned in to the Y or the teen centers.

Swimmer Sonyia Williams opens the 3rd Bill Hudson Memorial Invite held at the Aquatic Center this past Saturday by singing the National Anthem. There were 15 teams in attendance with 336 swimmers participating. Both the boys, 609 points, and the girls, 672 points, won their portion of the meet. Many state standards were met and personal bests were achieved. The Rookies were impressive as well. Jingle Bell Run Sunday

The Los Alamos High School Band is hosting the third Annual Jingle Bell Rock 'N Run Sunday, Dec. 10 to raise money for the Los Alamos High School and Middle School band programs.

The fun run includes the choice of a 5K or 1 mile run and is modeled after the popular Rock and Roll marathons by featuring live music along the routes. Students from the Los Alamos High School and Middle School bands will be playing holiday tunes for the runners. Costs are $30 for the 5K (race day registration is $35) and $10 for the mile.

  • Base fee is $130 per player, all ages and genders.
  • Early Registration Discount: $5 through midnight on Jan 31
  • Late Registration Fee is $5 after March 4 for high school and after March 15 for youth
  • Family Discount (part of same household):
    • $13 for the second player (10%),
    • $10 for the third player (8%),
    • $6.50 for each player thereafter (5%)

It’s a snow day at Pajarito Mountain! The flakes started flying last night and continued into today.

The Los Alamos ski area has received 4 inches already, plus its mountain crew continues to make snow in preparation for opening day, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 16.

This week, the weather pattern changed and brought colder temperatures that produced prime snowmaking conditions at Pajarito. Crews are continuing to make snow day and night as they gear up for next week’s start of the season.
