New Mexico Department Of Transportation Announces Online Survey For State Rail Plan

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE – Today, the New Mexico Department of Transportation announced the availability of an online survey to find out which railroad issues are important to New Mexicans and for providing input to update the State Rail Plan.

The survey is accessible through this link.

The 2018 Rail Plan will explore these issues to identify potential solutions. The updated Rail Plan will also describe the current state of New Mexico’s rail system, articulate a strategic vision for the future of the rail system, and identify projects and funding sources to support that vision.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi visited Mosul Sunday “to announce its liberation and congratulate the armed forces and Iraqi people on this victory.”

(New York Times, Sunday July 9, 2017 from al-Abadi’s official Twitter account). From the same NYT article, “The victory marked the formal end of a bloody campaign that lasted nearly nine months, left much of Iraq’s second- largest city in ruins, killed thousands of people, and displaced nearly a million more.”

Folks, we outdid ourselves! The 2017 4th of July Celebration at Overlook Park was the best attended yet.

The hot sunny skies gave way to some clouds and respite from the heat. All who entered the park on Meadow Lane were greeted by the Fire Departments huge flag. It’s a great reminder that we really do live in a special place.

After nearly 50 years of angling in New Mexico, I have seen a lot of changes in the fishing regulations concerning the number of fish an angler could keep (the daily limit). The first year I moved here (1968) the daily limit was a very liberal 12 fish-per-day for trout.

I would like to thank Vernon Kerr and his red cap ambassadors for their efforts in promoting Los Alamos tourism.

I think that the biggest problem Los Alamos has is the lack of diversity in its economy. While increased tourism won’t fix that problem, it will help.

One of the things that his group has noted is the lack of souvenir shops for tourists. The reason for that is that retail is difficult in Los Alamos. The market is small and the costs are high. Souvenir shops are walk-in businesses, and they will almost certainly need to locate

“Dour”: a word meaning sullen or gloomy … severe or stern. Synonyms: bleak, dismal, dreary, forbidding, sour, surly. Ugly. Hmmm … sounds charming.

It seems that one can encounter a lot of dour people. Not sure why. After all, as the old saying goes: What fun it that? Certainly there can be involuntary dourness due to psychological conditions; I don’t mean those. But some simply don’t like to have to deal with other people. Some introverted may use dourness as a “shields up!” defense. Some are on the lookout to being offended
