Pastor Granillo: Your Voice

By PASTOR RAUL GRANILLO

If you don’t know when and how to speak, you lose your voice before you reach the floor. – Rev Dr. Deirdre Brower-Latz (Principle, Nazarene Theological College, Manchester)

Every one of us has a voice. That is, we each have a unique story or experience that can be shared with others. We may have an experience that will give wisdom to a decision, or perception that can bring clarity to a dialogue. Whatever it is, each person on this planet has a voice with the ability to encourage and edify the rest of humanity. Too often, however,

Clark: Apology To FOS Volunteers

By CAROL A. CLARK
Publisher
Los Alamos Daily Post

I was contacted this morning by a volunteer with the Friends of the Shelter who expressed deep hurt at a recent story published in the Los Alamos Daily Post about the organization severing ties with the local animal shelter.

She felt the headline with the word “raid” misrepresented the actions of the volunteers and that the organization’s long history of caring for animals has been diminished.

I take full responsibility for that headline and apologize to the volunteers of this organization. These volunteers have done an invaluable service

Letter To The Editor: About Government Regulation…

By RICHARD NEBEL
Los Alamos

I would like to take issue with Ed Brinbaum’s recent letter (link) on government regulation. Government (over)regulation can be a serious problem. Let me give you some examples.

When I was an undergraduate student in the early 1970s, I worked a couple of summers for a civil engineering firm. One of our clients was a small utility that was building a coal-fired power plant. The utility load was too small for nuclear power and natural gas was then too expensive to be practical, so coal was really the only option they had.

This was when the EPA was new, and the utility was being Read More

With a drum roll from the pit, the audience rose as one and Maestro Nicholas Carter led the orchestra and more than 2000 voices in the National Anthem. Then began the overture for Johann Stauss’ Die Fledermaus which the “Waltz King” loaded with highlights of the musical numbers from his most successful operetta.

The essence of the story is the notary Dr. Falke, still Read More

World Futures: Who Do You Trust – Or Is It Whom? Part One

World Futures: What Do We Need?

By ANDY ANDREWS
Los Alamos World Futures Institute

In the winter or spring of 1973, I attended a required lecture by Walter Cronkite, the anchor of CBS Evening News and “the most trusted man in America.” At the end of each broadcast he said “And that’s the way it is.” I was 31years old and I believed him. Again, it was a required lecture. I was lucky attendance was required.

During the lecture Mr. Cronkite spoke about different coverage of the same event by different reporters from different newspapers and networks (mainly we had ABC, CBS, and NBC – Fox wasn’t around). Read More

Just One Thing To Do This Week: Move A Little

By MARY BETH MAASSEN
Los Alamos

My daughter was five years old and my son was three.

They were playing on the floor, happily rolling their Hot Wheels across the tile. “Uh-oh,” my son said suddenly. “My car broke. It had a nervous breakdown!”

My heart sank into my stomach and I realized I had screwed up my kids for life.

It was easy to understand why he was confused. When my children were young both the car and their mother broke down on a regular basis. As they got older the cars became more reliable. I, however, continued to have challenging episodes.
My mental health and well-being finally started to improve Read More
