WASHINGTON, D.C. — Because nuclear and radioactive materials are most vulnerable to theft and sabotage when they are being transported, the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) is on a mission to make nuclear and radioactive material transport more secure globally.

‘Luminarias In Lincoln’ On Christmas Eve

The Lincoln Historic Site will present “Luminarias in Lincoln” Christmas Eve, featuring a special appearance by Santa and his trusty steed, Goober, the Longhorn steer.

The event is sponsored by the Lincoln Pageant Committee and Friends of Historic Lincoln.

Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) secured major wins in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) that support New Mexico’s men and women in uniform, military installations, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and job-creating initiatives throughout the state.

The Senate passed the NDAA on a vote of 89 to 10. The legislation has passed both chambers of Congress with strong bipartisan support and now heads to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

NNSA Issues Statement Of Findings For High Explosive Transfer Facility Blast Radius Fence Project At LANL

The Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Los Alamos Field Office has issued a Floodplain Statement of Findings for proposed installation of a three-strand smooth wire fence intended to create an operational boundary between the public and direct access to the High Explosive (HE) Transfer Facility.

The proposed fencing would be installed from a former spur of Anchor Ranch Road to the existing chain link fence north of X-Ray Road. The fence would cross approximately 60 feet of the Pajarito Canyon 100-year floodplain.

Hesperus Ski Area In Colorado Opens Friday

Thanks to recent snowfall in the San Juan Mountains and Durango area, Hesperus Ski Area will open for the 2021/22 ski season at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17 in Hesperus, Colo.

The ski area plans to open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Jan. 1, 2022, including the Hesperus lodge and snack bar, rental shop and ski and ride school.

Hesperus Ski Area also will host a free uphill community ski day beginning today, Dec. 16.

Fierce Winds Take Down Trees And Knock Out Power Across Entire Los Alamos Townsite

COUNTY News:

Power has been restored to electric customers in Los Alamos after an early morning windstorm led to an electric outage for the entire townsite.

Linemen from the Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities have turned their attention to the ski hill, which is the only area still without electricity.

Circuits 15 and 16 were restored around 2:40 p.m., bringing power back for North Community, North Mesa and Barranca Mesa. Power was restored to residents on Read More

DPU Crews Continue Working To Restore Power

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) reports that as power is gradually restored for electric customers in Los Alamos, there may be isolated instances where power remains out.

At this time, Fairway Drive in Western Area is still down even though the rest of that area has been restored.

Additionally, customers may continue to be without electricity if there are branches on power lines in the immediate vicinity.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, power is expected to be restored around 1 p.m. for North Community, North Mesa and Barranca Mesa residents.

Los Alamos Ice Rink & Golf Course Closed Due To Weather

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Community Services Department reports that due to the wind storm today, both the Los Alamos County Golf Course and Ice Rink are still without power and phones lines are not working.

Schools In Los Alamos Closing Due To Power Outage

I apologize for the frustration over the weather this morning. The storm moved in after our usual decision making window and we already had buses out and students on their way to schools. We always encourage families to use caution and make decisions that they feel safe with for their situation.

Unfortunately, we were notified of a power outage as students were arriving. The county has restored power in some areas but just informed us that it will be 3-4 hours before power is restored at Barranca, Mountain, Aspen, LAMS. We cannot Read More

Power Now Partially Restored To Los Alamos Townsite

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) reports that after a power outage early this morning affecting the entire Los Alamos townsite, circuits 14, 17 and 18 are now energized, restoring power to Eastern Area and the downtown area.

Department of Public Utilities crews are investigating the cause of the outage.

Restoration of power to Western Area, North Mesa, Barranca Mesa and North Community may take several more hours.

Trees are down in both Los Alamos and White Rock and safety is DPU’s top priority in efforts to bring power back.
