March 8: White Rock Civic Center & Ashley Pond Park Improvements

Los Alamos County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Evaluation and Oversight Committee will hold two public hearings at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 and Thursday, March 8 in Council Chambers for those applicants who have indicated that they are ready to move from Phase 1 (Study) to Phase 2 (Design/Construction).

The CIP Committee will consider Phase 2 applications on these dates for these projects:

  • March 6 – Golf Course Improvements
  • March 8 – White Rock Civic Center & Ashley Pond Pk Improvements

The applicant will present their Phase 2 applications to the Committee, along with a summary

Library Hosts 'Every Child Ready to Read' Workshop

Talking, singing, reading, writing and playing: Fun and simple steps to help get every child ready to read @ your library.

The Los Alamos County Library System has an exciting series of workshops underway designed to help get Every Child Ready to Read®. Mesa Public Library will present the second Every Child Ready to Read workshop for parents and caregivers from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3.

(Note: This workshop is for adults only; children will benefit from what their parents or caregivers learn – but not during this session; the last workshop in the series will be for both

CIP Committee Considers Nature Center and Teen Center Thursday

The Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Committee will meet in Council Chambers at 5:15 p.m. Thursday to consider Phase 2 applications for a new nature center and a new teen center.
 
The nature center has three possible designs, all from Catalyst Architecture. The preferred site (based on community input at a public meeting in November) is on Canyon Road, formerly the skate park location just up the road from the Aquatic Center.
 
 
In addition, as a close-to-net-zero energy use building, it becomes a model for environmental sustainability.

Firefighters Rescue Injured Woman Hiker

Los Alamos Firefighters rescued a hiker who had fallen on Red Dot Trail in White Rock this afternoon while walking with friends. Shortly after noon, a member of her hiking party called out to a passing trail runner and asked him to call emergency dispatch to request help for the injured woman.
