on October 12, 2017 - 7:08am

On Columbus Day, members of Boy Scout Troop 122 in Los Alamos gathered at American Legion Post 90 to retire approximately 150 American flags. Under the direction of Life Scout Coen Noeninckx, who was performing this service as part of his Eagle project, the Scouts and veterans retired a flag as a group and then used three fire pits to retire the rest of the flags over the next hour and a half. The entire ceremony took place in solemn quiet, with each flag saluted by its bearers as it was retired. The retirement concluded with a final ceremony involving the entire group. Courtesy photo
