ROTARY STARS News:

The 3rd Annual ¡Fiesta Los Alamos! is just around the corner, and tickets are selling quickly. The organizing group, Los Alamos Rotary STARS, has just announced the schedule of entertainment and activities for the event, 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 at Fuller Lodge. ¡Fiesta Los Alamos! promises to be a fun and magical evening for all ages again this year.

The schedule for the evening is as follows (subject to change):

  • 5 p.m. Doors open/Cash bar and Dinner buffet;
  • 5-7 p.m. Live Mariachi music by Trio Los Amigos de New Mexico;
  • Children’s activities;
  • Silent auction open for bidding;
  • “Mercado” Mexican market open for shopping;
  • 7 p.m. Colorful folkloric dance performance by Baile Español;
  • 7:30 p.m. Live auction;
  • 8-9 p.m. Dancing; and
  • 9 p.m. Event closes.

The ticket includes a gourmet Mexican dinner buffet and drinks by the Blue Window Bistro, live mariachi music, folkloric dance performances, silent and live auctions, all in the festive atmosphere of Fuller Lodge. The Blue Window Bistro will also provide a cash bar.

In addition, tickets can be purchased one for $1 or six for $5, which can be used for a raffle of wine and other items. Members of the Rotary Interact, an active group of Rotary teens, will facilitate the children’s activities, there will be a piñata, face painting and much more. Adults can use tickets to participate in the wine walk, which was a popular feature at the event last year.

Perhaps the most popular offering last year, though, was the Mexican “Mercado”, which simulates a traditional Mexican market. Kids can purchase sombreros, maracas, and other traditional toys. This year, traditional Mexican blown glass and painted pottery pieces will also be available for purchase.

Tons of prizes have been generously donated by local businesses and individuals for the silent and live auctions.

The event is a fundraiser of the Los Alamos Rotary STARS, a group of motivated Rotarians who are determined to fit community and international service into their busy lifestyles, while at the same time having FUN! STARS supports various service projects in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, as well as in Los Alamos. STARS is a satellite of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos.

Tickets to the event are $40 in advance/$50 at the door for adults, $20/$25 for teens 13-17, and children 12 and under are free. They can be purchased online at www.FiestaLA.eventbrite.com, at the Blue Window Bistro, or by emailing gloria.brehm@gmail.com.
