ART News:

SANTA FE  Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD) students are using their art to fight for social justice. Color: A Painting Exhibition Against Hate features a group of young diverse college students from SFUAD who are using their art to fight for social justice. All profits from this show will be donated to Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF).

Opening night is 4 -7 p.m., Saturday, March 18, at the ART.i.factory in Art.i.Fact at 930 Baca St. in Santa Fe. The exhibition shows through March 28, with gallery hours 10 a.m. to  6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Entry is free to everyone, and artwork prices range $75 to $300. Donations are appreciated.

This exhibition was inspired by SFUAD contributing faculty member Sarah Stolar's oil painting class studio course, Color and Technique. This course allows students to explore all forms of color as a guide for self-expression, including using painting as a cathartic experience of the current social climate. The exhibition displays pieces with variation with color, which includes (but not limited too): vibrancy of colors, natural colors, signal color, and color expression in black and white.

"These SFUAD student artists went above and beyond to create artwork that highlights each individual artist's style, symbolism, and unique perspective," said Sarah Stolar, contributing faculty member, SFUAD. "During this process this group pushed their boundaries by expanding their skills, as well as broadening their artistic perspective."

Exhibiting artists include: Melissa A. Carroll, Ashley Garcia, Cyan Paige Gonzalez, Darian Haddon, Emma Leverett, Rhy Menchaca, Elexsis Miller, Charley Montano, Romario A. Powell, Jorge A. Lozano Rocha, Danielle Sanchez, and Josh VelleKamp. Fellow students Sarah Lewandowski and Sarah Perry are assisting with exhibition planning.
