RAYMOND HENRY MORK August 19, 1926 – July 19, 2017

Born August 19, 1926 in Jamestown, ND, Raymond Henry Mork passed away peacefully after a long, full life on July 19, 2017, just a month short of his 91st birthday.

Ray grew up in Jamestown with his older brother, Bob, and loved to retell stories about the adventures (often mischievous!) he had in his childhood neighborhood. Competing in both track and football, Ray was a superior athlete in high school and college, setting several school records. He graduated from high school, then attended Jamestown College before transferring to NDSU in Fargo where he earned a degree in civil engineering.

Ray served in the US Navy for two years, from 1942-1944. Returning to ND after the war, his buddies set him up on a blind date with a beautiful farm girl, Lorraine Janet Lees, from Ellendale, ND. The two were married on Sept 1, 1953, and moved to St. Paul, MN where they were blessed with seven children (Colleen, Andy, Jeanne, Gail, Joyce, Jim and David). In 1967, Ray and Jan relocated their young family to Billings, MT and enjoyed raising their children near the Rimrocks on Lohof Drive. It was a neighborhood rich with lots of playmates and endless hours of great outdoor fun every season of the year.

Along with Mom, Dad loved supporting his children and grandchildren in their various sports, music and scouting events. You'd usually find them together on the bleachers cheering us on! Retiring from a career in engineering, Ray was employed at St. John’s Retirement Home where he enjoyed gardening and visiting with the folks living there. Something Dad always looked forward to was the annual week of family adventures at Camp Tuffit on Lake Mary Ronan in northern Montana. He loved treating grandkids to apple pie ala mode at the Crawdad Café while watching all the activities on the lake. Dad was also an avid rockhound. He was former president and long-standing member of the Billings Gem and Mineral Club and loved showing off his large collection of artifacts.

After losing Jan, his wife of 63 years, Ray moved to Richland, WA and lived with his daughter Gail, son-in-law, Paul and their family. He cherished family time and enjoyed being involved in a busy household up until his passing. Dad is survived by his seven children Colleen(Amor) Yahyaoui, Andy(Kathleen)Mork, Jeanne(Randy) Pearson, Gail(Paul) Dotson, Joyce(Mike) Bondurant, Jim Mork, and David(Kim)Mork. Also 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren! Ray is also survived by three nieces and their families, Connie(Norm) Nuss, Barb(Tim) Cullen, and Kathy(Bob) Richards.

A funeral Mass will be held in Billings, MT at St. Pius Church on Friday, September 29. The Mass will begin at 11:00 and a luncheon will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Billings Gem and Mineral Club, P. O Box 477, Billings MT  59103 or to Chaplaincy Health Care, 1480 Fowler St, Richland, WA  99352.
