Los Alamos Jewish Center Hosts Annual Community Passover Seder April 11

on March 19, 2017 - 7:10am

Jewish Center News:

The Los Alamos Jewish Center will hold its annual Community Passover Seder at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center. The event is open to anyone interested in attending.

The Seder is a ceremonial dinner filled with rituals designed to celebrate the Jewish people’s exodus from Egypt. The Seder, which is Hebrew for “order”, ushers in the week of Pesach in which Jews refrain from eating Chametz (any food that's made of grain and water that have been allowed to ferment and "rise").

The celebration of Passover commemorates the miraculous delivery of the Jews from years of slavery, ultimately culminating in the birth of the Torah, the Five Books of Moses, at Mount Sinai. Thus, for Jews all over the world, this annual time of renewal is a time to look at themselves and their society through the lens of the slave once again. It is a time to let go of all prejudice, intolerance, closed mindedness, and limited thinking.

“This year is a time for renewed inspiration to help create a world that is free for all peoples and all religions,” a Jewish Center spokesman said.

This year Rabbi Jack Shlachter will lead the Community Seder as a fun evening of ritual dedicated to the memory of the Exodus from Mitzrayim, or Egypt, and the importance of freedom and respect for everyone.

The event will be catered by Pig & Fig Café. Seating is limited, so make sure reservations are received by April 3. Admission includes a full dinner and is $30 per adult LAJC member, $40 per adult non-member. Admission is $10 for member children 5-12, $20 for non-member children 5-12 and free for children 4 and under.

The dinner will be Kosher, and will include gefilte fish, matzo ball soup and a main entrée of sea bass, beef brisket or vegetable ragout and a walnut almond cake with strawberry mint salad for dessert. To register, contact Abe Lederman at 505.690.3271 or via email at abe@deepwebtech.com.
