LACA News:

The Los Alamos Concert Association presents István Várdai, Hungary’s rising young cellist, and esteemed Israeli-American pianist Shai Wosner at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21 in the Crossroads Bible Church at 97 East Road.

LACA’s usual venue, the Duane Smith Auditorium is undergoing renovation and will not be available for this performance. Concert attendees are encouraged to carpool and arrive early as parking in the Crossroads Bible Church parking lot and surrounding vicinity is limited.

Várdai made headlines in 2016 when an anonymous benefactor granted him the long term use of a legendary cello made in 1673 by Antonio Stradivari. The instrument was owned previously by Jacqueline Du Pré and Lynn Harrell.

The only cellist to have won both Geneva’s International Cello Competition and the ARD Competition in Munich, Várdai also is a recent recipient of the Prima Award for outstanding contributions to Hungarian culture.

Israeli-American pianist Shai Wosner has attracted international recognition for his exceptional artistry and creative insight. In addition to his frequent solo appearances with orchestras here and abroad he is widely sought after by colleagues for his versatility and collaborative spirit. He is the recipient of a prestigious Avery Fischer Career Grant and Lincoln Center’s Martin E. Segal Award and was a BBC New Generation Artist.

The duo’s program will include sonatas by Debussy, Beethoven and Brahms along with works by Kodály and Janácek.

Tickets ($35) are available at the Lensic box office in Santa Fe, in Los Alamos at CB FOX and Smith’s Marketplace and at Smith’s in White Rock or electronically at www.ticketssantafe.com. Tickets at the door are $40.

Continuing a long Los Alamos Concert Association tradition, free tickets for students ages 6-18 are available at Los Alamos outlets and at the door.
