A School Board Meeting is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the School Board Room at 2101 Trinity Dr.

Student Science Fair winners will be recognized by the Board as well as some of our excellent teachers: Michele Altherr (Mountain), Britt Williams (Aspen), Samantha Waidler (Barranca), Kayla Richardson (Mountain), Alicia Kirkland (Mountain), Ashley Merhege (Aspen), and Allison Washburn (Aspen). Come to the Board Meeting for 10 minutes at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate these student’s and teacher’s accomplishments.

Results of the annual Climate Survey will be presented. The survey gages teacher/staff morale and workplace environment. Information from the Climate Survey is used by the School Board to help set priorities in the Strategic Plan and Budget.

An informational update about school start time will be provided. A team at the HS is evaluating opportunities to start High School later or provide flexible start time as directed by the Board in Fall 2016. The Board decision to study start time options is based on the recommendation from the American Academy of Pediatrics, which is available by clicking here.

A report from the Project Based Learning Team brings a recommendation to the School Board for approval. This team is loosely related to the XQ Superschool competition team. Anyone with interest in Project Based Learning in our schools, ideas from the XQ competition, or success for our underserved and middle students may find this report interesting. A copy of the presentation is here

The last item to highlight is a request for Board approval of the Barranca Design and Summer Construction Projects.

It’s difficult to estimate start time for each of these topics. The student and teacher recognition will certainly begin at 5:30 p.m. so come celebrate and see what’s happening at the Board Meeting.
