County Opens Survey, Releases Draft Bike Plan To Acquire Public Input
The County opened a brief survey April 13, 2017 on Open Forum requesting information regarding residents’ bicycle use. The information obtained from the survey will be instrumental in helping to further shape the Bicycle Transportation Plan.

The Public Works Department also released a first draft of the Bicycle Transportation Plan, the next step in the County’s efforts to help make Los Alamos a more bicycle friendly community. The plan will help to develop a more comprehensive transportation network with bicycle travel as the focus with broader goals of enhancing the quality of life, bringing economic development and additional tourism to Los Alamos.
The plan will also aid the County in obtaining medal status from the League of American Bicyclists as a “Bicycle Friendly Community”. The County was awarded “Honorable Mention” in 2016. Most importantly, the plan will allow for the prioritization and programming of future projects and bring future funding opportunities from sources within the County as well as federal and state grant programs.
“I’m pleased to release this ambitious, yet realistic plan for making Los Alamos an outstanding place to travel by bicycle,” County Engineer Eric Martinez said. “Providing safe, convenient means for cycling to parks, schools and jobs is an important part of providing healthy, multimodal transportation options for our residents. Although the draft document is in its rough, early stages, we felt it was essential to start acquiring public input as soon as possible. I urge residents to review the document and then send us feedback. Your input is essential to ensuring we have a comprehensive plan for moving forward.”
