Staff Report

Los Alamos Fire Chief Troy Hughes briefed members of the Los Alamos County Council on the fact that his Fire Station 4, B Shift crew has been awarded the Phoenix CPR Award.

The Phoenix Award, which began in January of 2017 for the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) is awarded to personnel that have been involved in calls where the patient suffered cardiac arrest, was resuscitated, and not only survived, but was able to return home from the hospital.

This is the second award since January of this year and both awards have been received by Capt./Paramedic Joseph Baca, Driver Engineer/Paramedic Van Leimer and Firefighters Matthew Austin, Zachary Shriver and Kenneth Martinez.

A local patient who is alive because of these EMTs had planned to be at the Council meeting to present the award to the crew that saved her life in February but was unable to do so.

The Los Alamos County Council, County staff and members of the community attending Tuesday's Council meeting in Council Chambers stood and applauded these heroic members of the Los Alamos Fire Department.
