Opening at the Museum of International Folk Art Sunday, March 3, 2013, 34 quilts will be on view from the museum’s collection and from local collectors.
These remarkably crafted textiles illustrate the influence of religious proscriptions, westward migration, and interaction with “English” neighbors. The exhibition runs through Sept. 1, 2013.

Mother-Daughter Artists Gear Up For Saturday’s Holiday Fair
Ward’s Beaded Jewelry at Karen Wray Fine Art
Photo: Beaded bracelet by artist Chris Ward
By Mandy Marksteiner
In the mid nineties, Chris Ward attended a craft show in Owatonna, Minn. In one of the craft show booths she saw a fabulous beaded bracelet that she absolutely loved.
She wanted to give it to her mother, but was afraid that the colors weren’t quite right.
Instead of forgetting about the bracelet and buying her mom a gift card, she took a class with the woman who made the bracelet, and fell in love with beading.

Asterman’s Movie Reviews: Wreck-It Ralph, Twilight V – Breaking Dawn Part 2 and Skyfall
+1
Advisory – Since the film stars Sarah Silverman, obviously there are jokes geared for the parents, but parents need not worry, as each one is carefully crafted to miss the impressionable minds.
The kids will likely be far more scared of the insect monsters, but every good kid’s story has a few things to send the shivers.
It’s downright strange to think a Disney-video game crossover film tapped into my heart more deeply than Pixar’s Celtic phase.

New Mexico Dance Theater Performance Company’s “The Nutcracker” opened Nov. 9.
Seeing “The Nutcracker” is like visiting an old friend. The music and the story are so comfortable and familiar we fall easily under its spell.
Adding to the homey feeling is the knowledge that this is our very own “Nutcracker.” NMDT-PC is a Los Alamos company. The company is joined on stage by young students from the NMDT School.

We’re all familiar with the Met Opera’s (and other opera companies’) video transmissions of productions on the big screen which view the action through the “fourth wall” of the stage.
Here, the focus will be to define what makes a filmed version of an opera different from a video presentation of a live, on-stage opera performance.

‘Woman in Black’ Pays Triumphant Visit to Los Alamos

Review By Bonnie Gordon
Do not miss The Woman in Black at Los Alamos Little Theater through Nov. 11.
Not only do I guarantee you’ll be creeped out, this is a play that makes you think, and the production is outstanding.
“The Woman in Black,” adapted from the book by Susan Hill by Stephen Mallatratt, premiered in 1987 and has been running steadily on the London stage since 1989.
Don’t think that just because you saw the movie version, you should skip this play. Seeing the story on the stage is an entirely different experience.
The play is a send up of the classic English
